Fondant lettering mess up!! Help!?

My boyfriends birthday is tomorrow and I ordered a cake from NJ It came undecorated so I asked a local cake decorator to help me out by making cut outs of the letters in fondant. She did..and the letters are covered with a shiny (almost metallic) finish. And it does not look good. Can I go over it with a paint brush and food coloring? Or how do I fix this?! Thanks!
